Seven years after the publication of the controversial groundbreaking bestseller "The Seduction of Christianity" in 1985, authors Dave Hunt and T. A. McMahon joined forces on another front. The Berean Call was formed under the direction of Dave Hunt to encourage spiritual discernment among those who regarded themselves not just as “evangelicals” but as biblical Christians. Through the publication of the newsletter "The Berean Call," believers are urged to delve back into the Word of God instead of being swayed by every doctrine and to be equipped with materials to guide them in truth. The materials provided by TBC are thought-provoking and may be considered controversial by some, thus not commonly found in many Christian bookstores.

The ministry and newsletter are named after Acts 17:11, where those from the Greek city of Berea were commended for their fair-mindedness compared to those in Thessalonica. Not only were they eager to receive the Word, but they also checked it against what the Apostle Paul taught them in order to align it with the Scriptures.

As the mailing list grew, so did the number of employees and volunteers. Through God’s provision, the ministry expanded its facilities to include a warehouse for storage, shipping and packing departments, a radio studio, audio duplication and video editing departments, bookkeeping and mail-order departments, as well as editorial, graphics, and administrative departments. Despite many of these divisions being comprised of only one or two employees each, and handling a high volume of mail, orders, and product output, TBC consistently receives praise for the quality and speed at which products are dispatched as well as for the courteous responses given over the phone and through personal letters.

The Berean Call has always operated with the belief that God will provide as they seek His face; hence they do not make appeals for financial assistance. While the ministry primarily operates on donations, these contributions are freewill and not solicited. TBC has witnessed God exceeding abundantly above all that was asked or thought.

For nearly ten years, the weekly radio program "Search the Scriptures Daily" was broadcast on more than 300 stations as well as on the Internet. Although no longer in production, STSD is rebroadcast on several stations and archived on TBC’s website. In 2013, TBC began producing "STS 24/7" (Search the Scriptures), an interview program featuring T. A. McMahon engaging in lively discussions with various guests that continues to this day.

Following Dave Hunt’s passing in 2013, Tom and TBC staff have continued providing articles and answering questions in the newsletter. The ministry is constantly expanding into new territories, aiming to reach a broader audience with God’s truth through various mediums such as the Internet, in-house videos, audio and e-books. The ministry is receiving letters and inquiries from all corners of the world as individuals are introduced to the newsletter and to Dave’s and T. A.’s literature.
